The First Days at the D.U.M.P.

As I mentioned in the last post, Steve has christened our new house the Dump.  I took it a step further and decided D.U.M.P.(Delightfully, Unique & Mystical Place)fit perfectly!! ;)

Our first job is to remove the old carpet. We will be doing this ourselves. every penny counts in a project like this!! The carpet in the 3 main bedrooms and the hallway is our first task. The carpeting comes soon.  While Hubby and his guys, along with the kids are removing the old yukky stuff, I (along with my "girls") will be cleaning, bleaching wiping, bleaching, dusting and oh yeah, more bleaching!! The amazing thing about this is I am usually a vinegar and baking soda kinda girl, but for this, I NEED the big guns! I think the last time this house was cleaned I was still nursing babies!!

A New (to us!) House

Several years ago we tried to sell our house, but the market was terrible and we had a lot of family stuff going on, so our heart just wasn't in it.  But, because we had repainted all my bright colored walls more neutrally to sell the place, I was always half moved out anyway.  In June, we decided to try again. We didn't have a place to move to and were really in no hurry given the last effort to sell had been a long process.  Imagine our surprise when we sold our house in 11 days!  Now where to go.......

We looked at a lot of places, but we were looking for something wooded, in a certain school district and something a tiny bit smaller. Then we found it!.... or at least I found it - Hubby wasn't completely on board! It was wooded, it was in the right school district, and it was a little bigger (well as the song goes 2 outta 3 aint bad!)

The down side? It was a complete dump! But how I loved it!  After days of negotiations, finally an accepted offer, a less than stellar inspection, and numerous estimates from every contractor under the sun we closed on September 29, 2014.

We will stay in a hotel for 4 nights so we can get the house cleaned and new carpeting installed in the bedrooms.

This is our looooong drive way!
Here is the outside of the house, I can't wait to find out who the architect was, but that will be another day!
This is the lowest level hall way. The steps lead up to the hall where the bedrooms are. It has a built in desk, and behind the mirrored door on the right is a real cedar closet!
This is the living room on the main level, Don't ya just love the carpet!

And the pool.  It is enclosed, but because the enclosure is just a 3-season room we still have to close the pool in the winter. Maybe one day we can turn it into an indoor pool.
